The incident of three people lynched by villagers in Palghar on suspicion of being the thieves is given a communal angle.
70- year old Kalpvrush Giri and 35- year old Sushil Giri—belonged to a Gosavi Nomadic Tribe and were affiliated to ‘Shri Panch Dashnam Juna Akhara’ in Varanasi. The third person, identified as Nilesh Telgade, was the driver of the car.
Three people going to attend a funeral were pulled out of the car and were brutely killed by local Adivasis from Dahanu taluka in Palghar district in Maharashtra Palghar district. The Kasa police station investigating the incident has claimed that the victims were attacked after the local villagers mistook those three people for thieves.
The incident was given political colour and Hindutva activists are active on social platforms relating the incident with religion. Though the authorities deny the communal angle given to the incident.
Vikrant Deshmukh, Additional SP of Palghar, who denied any communal angle to the incident. Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Deshmukh on his Twitter account said that the religion of the attackers and attack is the same. 110 people who have been arrested so far are all “Hindus.”

In the case of mob lynching, till now 110 accused ( of local tribal community) have been arrested out of which 9 are juvenile.
Investigation is handed over to CID Crime.
IG Konkan is directed to enquire into police action.
