Verification: The photo was shared by Ukraine’s Ministry of Defence and the photographer (Dmitry Muravsky) himself in 2016. The boy is carrying a toy gun.
An old photo from the year 2016 shows two small children holding hands and saluting Ukrainian troops following Russia’s 2022 invasion. The photo is from the year 2016.it does not have any correlation with the recent invasion of Ukraine by Russia.
The photo is shared on Twitter and Facebook with false claims “Two young Ukrainian children sending off soldiers to fight the Russians. Look what he has on his back”, and “Two young Ukrainian children sending off soldiers to fight the Russians. The kids holding hands, the girl holds a stuffed animal, the boy (her brother?) salutes. Look what he has on his back. This picture speaks a thousand words. #NoWarInUkraine #UkraineRussiaWar.” This is not true. Check the link shared below to know the fact:
Ukraine’s Ministry of Defense shared the image on Facebook in March 2016, crediting photographer Dmitry Muravsky. The same photo can be seen in an album with the caption “Children of War” shared by Dmitry Muravsky. Dmytro Muravskiy has been working as a volunteer photographer in the area of ATO or military training grounds for many months. He has provided the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine with a photo gallery on a gratuitous basis that was used to promote the service in the Armed Forces and not to display the real warfighting. He was dismissed in 2016.
The photo of a child can be seen here on Facebook with a toy gun.
The photo can be seen on Ukrainian National News and was published under the caption “Two young Ukrainian children sending off soldiers to fight the Russians. Look what he has on his back.” The date of the published photo is 23rd March 2016. Check the screenshot and the link shared :
