Verification: Afghan women’s volleyball player, Mahjabin Hakimi, was not beheaded by the Taliban
The post is viral on Facebook and Twitter with claims “Afghan women’s Volleyball team member, Mahjabin Hakimi, brutally beheaded by Taliban in Kabul.” Several media outlets also reported false claims. Several film personalities and well-known people shared the false post. Taliban took over Afghanistan on 15th Aug 2021. She was dead on August 6, 2021,i.e, before the Taliban took over Kabul. Mahajabeen’s family told AltNews “She was not killed by the Taliban in October. Mahjabin’s death occurred on August 6 and her body was found in her fiancé’s bathroom in Kabul. He claimed Mahjabin suffocated herself to death. However, our family suspects foul play by her in-laws.” Her brother Skandar Hakimi has posted on 7th Aug 2021 about her demise on his Facebook account to which people have replied with condolence messages. Taliban spokesman Dr. Mohammad Naeem also wrote in a tweet in Arabic that Mahjabin’s death took place during the previous regime before the Taliban came to power.
