A video of a mob breaking the idols in a Hindu temple in Pakistan’s Punjab Province is being shared on social media, falsely claiming that it shows Rohingya Muslims destroying a temple close to their settlement in West Bengal. The incident took place on 4 August 2021. As per the cops, the mob attacked the Siddhivinayak temple on Wednesday at Bhong city of Rahim Yar Khan District, some 590 km from Lahore, in reaction to the alleged desecration of a Muslim seminary. Tweet by parliamentarian and member of the Pakistan Hindu Council Dr. Ramesh Vankwani dated 4 August, where he said the situation was ‘tense’ and called the police’s negligence ‘shameful’. Ramesh Kumar Vankwani, a member of the National Assembly of Pakistan, who is also the patron-in-chief of the Pakistan Hindu Council, called on Chief Justice Ahmed at the Supreme Court in Islamabad on Thursday to discuss the temple attack. Prime Minister of Pakistan Imran Khan Tweeted the next day that he strongly condemns the attack.
