Verification: Video shared is old and there is no transport of Chital from Rajasthan to Kuno National Park for Cheetah released by PM Modi
An old video of Cheetahs attacking Impala shared as recent from Kuno National Park with the claims in hindi is “The video was uploaded with a caption in Hindi, “जब 8 चीतो के भोजन के लिए 180 हिरण छोड़े गए तो फिर यह 3 चीते 1 हिरण के पीछे क्यों पड़े हुऐ हैं| या यह लास्ट हे 2 दिन में 180 साफ|”.” The post is shared with claim “कुनो में चीतों के भोजन हेतु चीतल व हिरण भेजने की सूचनाएं आ रही हैं,जो अति निंदनीय है।मेरा केन्द्र सरकार से निवेदन है कि राजस्थान में विलुप्त होने की कगार पर पहुंचे हिरणों की प्रजाति और बिश्नोई समाज जिन्होंने हिरणों को बचाने के लिए अपने प्राण तक न्योछावर कर दिए.”
Also, a video that shows three Cheetahs attacking what appears to be an impala is being shared with the claim that the incident is recent and shows the Cheetahs attacking a Deer. This is not true. Check the links shared below to know the facts:
The video dates back to 17 August 2022 which predates the release of the eight Cheetahs from Namibia to Madhya Pradesh by PM Modi. The video is being shared on social media claiming that the recent incident shows the Cheetahs attacking a deer.
On searching for the facts with the screenshot of the video through keyframes, we found a longer version of the video that was uploaded on 17 August on a YouTube channel called ‘Lemurt Wildlife Tours’, which predates the arrival of the eight cheetahs. A shorter version of the same video of about half a minute is found on their Facebook Page. The description of the video said, “Kisaru, one of the senior matriarchs in the Mara ecosystem, with her cubs killed an impala.”
Both these videos identified the Cheetah as Kisaru and the location as Maasai Mara, Kenya.
In a report published on 21 September by India Today, and in The Hindu on 20 September, it is mentioned that “The Madhya Pradesh government has denied reports that Chital (spotted Deer) from Rajasthan were brought to the Kuno National Park in the state as prey for the eight African Cheetahs in their new home.”
Department of Forest MP tweeted about the presence of a large number of Chital Deer in Kuno Park and that there is no need to get Chital from other states.
