?The lady in the pink saree was the model for the world-famous painting “Lady with a lamp” by Ravi Verma at Jaganmohan Palace at Mysore. She was 18 years then. Now she is 86. She still looks beautiful and graceful.

First of all the picture is not by Raja Ravi Varma. The real artist behind this glowing piece of work is S.L.Haldankar and the painting is titled ‘Glow of Hope’. the woman in the painting is S.L.Haldankar’s daughter, Gita Haldankar.
Dated 4th Dec 2015, the lady who posed for the painting, Gita Uplekar – then Gita Haldankar- is 98 and bedridden in Kolhapur. Her occasional guests are from the art fraternity. Bangalore Mirror spoke to Gita’s extended family members in Kolhapur and Pune to capture the essence of the lady with the lamp. Read more at the link below:
