Verification: Promotion stunt by SonyLIV for its new Web Series “Undekhi” scared Mumbaikars
The post is viral on social media regarding Maharashtra police cautioning people not to take a call that starts from 140 as it will empty your bank account. To which Police clarified that its risky to share your OTP with anyone and taking the call wouldn’t empty your bank balance. Police were actually cautioning people about the rumour in response to a publicity stunt by SonyLIV.
According to BoomLive “Harish Baijal, DIG, Cyber Security Maharashtra Police, who had confirmed that after complaints against the SonyLIV promotional calls, police mobile vans patrolling made the announcements seen in the viral clips.”
The call from an unknown person to some people became a disturbing situation for many. People who got such calls also tweeted about it tagging Mumbai Police to look into the matter. After investigation, the truth was out and the call was actually a promotion stunt by SonyLIV to promote its new series “Undekhi”. SonyLIV apologised for the havoc they created to promote the web series. The cyber cell of Maharashtra police also took action and cautioned people about such misleading and scary stunts for any kind of publicity after there was a slew of calls to the Mumbai police.
