The photo of a boy with a food plate in hand is being shared with claims that the quality of mid-day meals provided by the UP government is improved and special food and fruits are provided to children. The photo is being circulated claiming that UP Government is providing such Mid-Day Meal. The viral post is seen on Twitter and Facebook with claim “उत्तर प्रदेश के सरकारी स्कूल का मिड-डे मील.”
In fact, the food on the plate is not the regular mid-day meal provided in schools. Check the links shared below to know the facts:
Uttar Pradesh Mid-Day Meal Authority website includes a specific weekly menu for the school. In this menu, Paneer, Milk Shake, and Icecreams are not mentioned as a part of the meal. Moreover, there is mention of “Tithi Bhojan” in the Pradhan Mantri Poshan Shakti Nirman. The 6th point mentions “The concept of Tithi Bhojan will be encouraged extensively. Tithi Bhojan is a community participation program in which people provide special food to children on special occasions/festivals.”
Occasionally such a special meal is arranged for children in the school of Malakpura when someone sponsors the lunch on their special occasion. The initiative is taken by the Pradhan (Amit) of the Malakpura village Jalaun district of UP to provide add-on mid-day meals for children and to allow people to celebrate their occasions by sponsoring food for children in these schools. An article about the good work by village pradhan Amit is published in Navbharat Times. Check the screenshot from the article. The viral photo is taken on one such occasion when on 31st August 2022, Saurabh Shukla who works for Canara bank in Kanpur sponsored a lunch for children in the school for his birthday. Check the tweet shared below. The same photo can be seen on Amit’s Facebook account.
The photo shared below clearly shows that it is from the Tithi Bhojan. The matter written on the board held by children reads about the person (Saurabh Shukla) who sponsored the food on his birthday.
