Verification: Former President Pranab Mukherjee is alive
Pranab Mukherjee was a senior Congress leader before he was elected as India’s 13th President. He served as President from July 2012 to 2017. On Thursday 13th August 2020, Journalist Rajdeep Sardesai tweeted about the death of former President Pranab Mukherjee. The tweet has deleted after people called him out for spreading false information.
Though Rajdeep Sardesai later tweeted to apologise for sharing false information:
My deep deep apologies for falling for fake news being circulated on Pranab Mukherjee passing away. I am deeply distraught for falling for this fake news.. it was unprofessional of me to not reconfirm it before tweeting. Apologies to all.. and prayers with the family.. ???

Abhijit Mukherjee and Sharmishtha Mukherjee, son and daughter tweeted to confirm that their father Pranab Mukherjee is alive and the rumours about their father are false.

There was another twist to the false information that the person with the same name “Abhijeet Mukherjee” who is not Pranam Mukherjee’s son was tagged by News Tak in their news article.

Abhijeet Mukherjee who only shares the name with Pranab Mukherjee’s son clarified in his tweet that he is not the son (Abhijeet Mukherjee) of Pranab Mukherjee.
Now even the official media Twitter handles are referencing me as Pranab Mukherjee’s son. For the nth time, I am NOT THAT Abhijeet Mukherjee!
