American Cartoonist Ben Garrison’s Depiction Of The State Of Indian Media

Verification: American Cartoonist Ben Garrison did not draw the shared cartoon that is claimed to be depicting the state of Indian Media

The cartoon with PM Modi face is shared on social media with false claims. Reverse image search on the image shared with false claims showed the original cartoon by Ben Harrison published on March 8, 2016. Titled ‘Lipstick on a pig,’ the satirical cartoon showed Hillary Clinton as a mother pig, and pigs that were labelled ‘fraud,’ ‘crony capitalism,’ ‘lobbyists’ and ‘lies,’ feeding off her, to show a metaphorical meaning. The cartoon was made at the time when Hillary Clinton was contesting in the US Presidential Elections. The face part from the caricature of then Gujarat CM Narendra Modi on his 60th birthday done by Satish Acharya an Indian Cartoonist is being copied and pasted on a caricature created by Ben Harrison in March 2016. The morphed cartoon is then shared with false claims on social media. The same morphed cartoon with PM Modi’s face was also shared earlier with false and misleading captions.

Cartoonist Ben Harrison had given a Weblink, where he wrote in details that his creation of “Lipstick on a Pig” was targeted at Hillary Clinton.

Ben Garrison Cartoons on its Facebook account shared his original drawing on 8 March 2016.

He also clarified in his tweet earlier that he never drew any cartoon on Indian Politics.

Indian Cartoonist Satish Acharya clarified in his tweet that the image of Modi had been photoshopped from his 2010 caricature of then Gujarat CM Narendra Modi on his 60th birthday.
