Verification: Income Tax India did not share the message about the approval of the Income Tax Refund of Rs 15,490
Fraudulent messages claiming to be from banks, credit cards, or KYC services used to deceive individuals are very common these days. The latest scam targets taxpayers. A message is going viral on social media and WhatsApp claiming that the recipient has been approved for an income tax refund of Rs 15,490.
Income Tax India has not sent this message. Beware of such scams & refrain from sharing your personal information.
According to Income Tax Department, if you receive an e-mail or find a website you think is pretending to be of the Income Tax Department, forward the e-mail or website URL to webmanager@incometax.gov.in. A copy of the same can also be forwarded to incident@cert-in.org.in. You may forward the message as received or provide the Internet header of the e-mail. The Internet header has additional information to help us locate the sender. After you forward the e-mail or header information to us, delete the message.”
PIB Factcheck also clarified that the message shared as WhatsApp forward is misleading.

The Income Tax Department never ask you to provide bank account details or update or verify them through messages. The Income Tax Refunds are sent directly to the pre-validated bank accounts provided by taxpayers at the time of filing returns. An intimation for the refund is also sent to taxpayers by the Income Tax Department through registered email IDs and mobile numbers.
The refund is sent only after the ITR is duly processed by the Income Tax Department. In case the ITR is not processed and the Tax Department needs more information, it sends an intimation to the registered email ids of taxpayers
